Run for your life

Saturday was the start of the Summer road racing season in Luleå. Last year we were sick for the first few events, and then we were away on holiday. We were determined not to let another year slip by. Training hasn't been all that easy what with work, commuting, and our horse. But we've done as much as we can. Saturday's event gave the choice of a 6km run, a 10km run, or a half marathon. We're not quite at half marathon stage just yet, but figured we were slightly better than 6km. So we chanced our arm and entered the 10k event. At worst we got a free T shirt and a free meal afterwards. I've been on worse dates.

It actually turned out pretty well. Luleå can be a pretty windy town at times, which isn't a lot of fun. Thankfully, while it was a little warmer than expected, the wind stayed mostly away. We managed to drag ourselves around the course, which went through a few residential suburbs and then on through the centre of town at a reasonable tempo, and even managed to stick the boot into a couple who foolishly thought they could outsprint us at the finish. A certain degree of satisfaction in that. No world records were set but we were rather chuffed to get the first one out of the way. Another event next week before it's off for 10 days of unbridled shopping in New York.
