House Buying episode one

Ok, looking to buy my first house in Sweden. Not completely new to the property game, having owned half a dozen over the years in the old country. Looking on-line I see a house I quite like the look of. From the photos. So I do a quick drive by. Looks ok. Phone the real estate agent up and ask to look through the house. No worries, says he. A viewing time is planned in 4 weeks. WHAT ??? Hey, look at me, I'm the guy standing over here waving large wads of cash around for your clients ! 4 frickin weeks ? What if I see something I like better in the meantime ? Have you or the vendors considered this ? have I no rights here ? 4 FRICKIN weeks ??? I want to see the house this week. Ok, so 4 weeks it is. Glad we got that one sorted. So I think I might just buy this house. There's a price listed. A bit higher than I would have liked. But it's a good house. Ok, mister, here's me cash. One house, please. If only life were that simple. Nope, the price isn't the price. That would just be silly. What was I thinking ? Nope, the price is more of a "guide". Now you have to start bidding. What ? Where did that come from ? Ok, when do the bids close ? Oh, when the seller thinks that they've managed to squeeze enough money out of everyone. Sorry, mate, but I don't bid. Here's my offer, take it or leave it. That's a shame, sir. better luck next time. No one can be expected to have to endure the stress of making a decision. Much better to play this one out in the bidding arena for however long it takes. See "Island Time".
