House Buying 103
The saga continues today. Yesterday we telephoned the vendor and gave our offer to purchase the property. Which the vendor gladly accepted. So we trotted around there after work to sign the offical purchase papers. And bought ourselves an apartment.
Or have we ?
Less than 30 minutes after arriving back home we get a phone call from the vendor. Before we can actually own the apartment, we have to be screened by the body corporate committee ( aka the local pensioners with too much time on their hands ) for financial security. And in order to do that, they needed to view our employment contracts, and latest salary details. They did a credit check on us and found out that we had no income for last year. Of course not, WE WEREN'T LIVING HERE !!!!!!!!!! It seems that paying cash for the property, and having a bucketload in the bank wasn't good enough. I guess that's not an option that's written down on the list. Not that I can see there being a problem, but who knows when we might finally have some input into our investment.
Pray tell me, why wasn't this mentioned BEFORE we agreed to buy the property ? We were also bidding on another property at the time, which we withdrew from after having our offer accepted at this place. We've now lost that opportunity, should this fall through for whatever reason. We also have to give notice to our landlord. Who knows when we will do that now. All this should be sorted out before anyone puts pen to paper. This is a real "arse about face" country at times.
What really bugs me is the lack of consideration shown by so much of Swedish society with regard to the effect that their actions might have on other people. "It's all about me". And it's starting to really piss me off. I'm the one paying the money here, I expect to have some rights. To cap it all off, we have to pay a deposit today. Before knowing if we can even move in !!! Since when did you ever have to hand over money, without receiving something of value in return ? Prisons are full of people who thought that was a good idea.
